Business Support >> Client Perspective

YFBS : 14/09/2009

Gordon, Kim and Johann met while studying architecture and after working for various London architectural practices, set up yfbs in September 2007.

The team have successfully positioned themselves as a small independent retailer and a recognised architectural studio, within the construction sector.
YFBS’ primary business focus and expertise is architecture and interior design but they are extending the business as a retailer and agent for building industry products. They are currently developing a branch of the business as an independent design store.
Product ranges so far include: Marike, SIT and MOLO for the more architectural related products and many other design oriented suppliers from across the globe, as well as tapping into local independent designers.

The key challenge was the development of specialist knowledge and innovative ideas into a viable business. The team had clear goals but needed help to secure funding, and with the business planning.

Martino Cartella, Prevista Business Adviser assisted them in developing a viable business model and leading them through the semantics of business generally. Through the IBS programme he helped them secure a £600 grant to buy a projector. This cash injection gave their new business a kickstart. From here they developed a business plan to get up and running.
Martino took them through this process with a series of lead-in meetings geared towards understanding business and highlighted issues appropriate to their line of business.

Now, nearly a year and 4 months established Yfbs have come a long way and already successfully established themselves as an innovative business at the heart of their local community. Their premises on Whitecross Street have enabled them to form links with the local community and YFBS are currently instigating projects involving the Prior Weston Primary School and Islington Council.

"The business support we received from Martino at Prevista was great, as a start up it was useful to have somewhere to go to get general advice and the initial encouragement to get the business up and running"
