Inspire!

Prevista’s delivery partner Inspire! is an Education Business Partnership working in Hackney, Camden and Islington. Through Prevista’s Youth Engagement Fund project, funded by the Department for Work and Pensions, Inspire! is delivering a specialist progression programme for young people aged 14-19 with low attainment levels, special educational needs/disability (SEND) and/or Behavioural, Emotional and Social Difficulties (BESD).

The programme helps students to improve their behaviour and motivation, increase their confidence, choose a career path, develop employability skills and progress to college, a job, a traineeship or an apprenticeship.

The programme has three components, which have been successfully delivered in Stormont House School, Mossbourne Academy, Clapton Girls’ Academy and BSix College. All elements of the programme are delivered by qualified teachers or youth workers with 3+ years of SEND & BESD experience.

1. Mentoring – Personalised progression and career support

30 minute one-to-one mentoring sessions every week/fortnight. Personalised Progession Plan with weekly targets.

2. Group Workshops – Employability, Apprenticeships, Motivation & Confidence

Schools select group workshops from a menu, tailored to the needs of the students enrolled on the programme:

• Communication skills acting workshop
• CV workshop
• Applying for apprenticeships
• Interview skills & mock interviews
• How to look for a job
• Applying for college
• Inspiring professional speakers
• Study skills for exams
• ‘Why Work?’ motivation session

3. Workplace Visits and Volunteers

These are tailored to the interests of students and make the connection between performance at school and the world of work.

The results so far have been extraordinary:

• 100% of students would recommend Inspired Futures to a friend
• 100% students rated it ‘Excellent or good’
• 96% of students said it improved their confidence
• 96% said it helped them plan for their future
• 83% said it helped them do better at school

We have received an array of positive feedback from the young people who have participated in this programme:

Thank you for helping me out and getting me thinking about college. If not for the assistance I would be wasting my time starting problems between me and the teachers.

Aaron, Mossbourne Community Academy

Thank you very much for making me realise the importance of applying myself to school and the possible outcomes I could achieve like good colleges and work.

Shona, Mossbourne Community Academy

Excellent. It helped with my behaviour and self-esteem. I had someone to talk to, made a CV and now have a Saturday job. Thank you for coming to our school, I really liked it.

Tyler, Year 12 at Stormont House School

“Excellent. It helped me express my feelings, sort out problems, think about my future and make a CV. Thank you for helping me.”

Dean, Year 12 at Stormont House School

“It was excellent. They really helped me to find a course and apply for it. Thank you.”
