Barclays Primary School

Barclays Primary School took on 12 members of staff though Prevista employment programmes covering posts right across the school.

Concerned about government cuts on spending becoming a reality, any help with staffing and training was hard one to refuse. Shelli Cooper commenting that “for us, the timing just couldn’t have been better”. The school in Waltham Forest came to Prevista in February this year after hearing about the offer through an article in a Westminster Training Publication.

Play Coordinator Shelli met with a Prevista Adviser Angela Asforis in February 2011 and immediately identified that Prevista were able to tailor a package of support that would certainly be beneficial. Angela adapted Prevista’s general working practices to fit with the School, working with Shelli every step of the way.

“Angela was just brilliant! She helped us with every single aspect of the process – from making sure we understood all the terms and conditions and legal business, to actually coming here and interviewing applicants with me. The whole thing really was straight forward for us”.

With the new staff now fully embedded at the school, they are now keen to take on more. They actively encourage new staff to develop and grow within their roles, some being given responsible jobs such as teaching assistants. The staff provided by Prevista have made a significant difference to the day to day roles of existing employees, Shelli commenting that:

“it has been a great relief for the teaching staff here. They can now do their jobs more effectively and have more time to spend in areas where they are most needed. I am keen for all the guys to be as hands on as they can and get as much out of their experience as possible”.

The staff at Barclays Primary School have even recommended Prevista to a number of other local businesses in their industry showing their commitment and belief in the programme. Cases like this show how working with companies like Prevista really can open up opportunities with real levels of responsibility and have the scope to genuinely develop the skills required to work in any industry.
