Why think:different?

“Until recently much of the emphasis had been on business growth, innovation and higher productivity, but Enterprise is now increasingly seen as a vehicle for tackling deprivation and social exclusion.”

The mainstream of business support has on the whole lacked success in engaging with deprived communities.  The community sector can successfully integrate a wide range of service provision and community engagement strategies.   Now there is a model for the community sector, working alongside the mainstream, to itself deliver business support in deprived communities

The Association of Community Based Business Advice (ACBBA) is now rolling out the new approach, which was pioneered by the SIED project. Come and discuss its implications.

Speakers:

Stephen Diamond
Acting Head of Enterprise Policy
London Development Agency

Steve Mason

Prof. David Smallbone & Prof. Robert Blackburn

Topics of discussion:
·   Has the case for Community Based Business Support been made?
·   What is the place for Community Based Business Support in the changing policy agenda for enterprise development and business support?
·   If the Community Based model is about Enterprise, Community Development and Social Inclusion can local and regional bodies find more joined up ways of sustaining the model across policy agenda
