Besjana Callaj

Besjana Callaj was working part-time and had the difficult task of raising a young child. With English being her second language, Besjana thought this might prevent her from completing her work, especially when she already lacked confidence in her skills and ability.

Sarah Cottenden, her tutor, really pushed and supported her throughout her journey. She started by writing daily accounts of her achievements and things that helped. Not long after, Besjana grew her confidence. Besjana said, “I have a very supportive mentor, who’s guided me throughout my course.” She later explained that her manager was also very supportive and offered childcare support to her son so she could complete tasks and extra hours in the setting.

All the support and guidance paid off! Despite working part-time, Besjana completed her childcare qualification in just a year and is working towards her Level 1 functional skills with the hope of them progress onto level 2.

She is keen to be signed up for her level 3 childcare qualification and is now working more hours in her setting. Her manager made it clear that she is a valuable member of the team and hopes she continues to provide her assistance in several areas.
