Mariam Razzaq

Mariam Razzaq was never in school as a child and left school with no qualifications, no experience with ICT, or in written English. Mariam was a premature baby and had partial hearing in both ears and must wear hearing aids 24/7. She has two children who have disabilities themselves and some health issues, including cancer. In 2017 Mariam was told that her youngest son would not get better. Mariam had a lot of concerns with using ICT and doing her written work when she first started the course and felt like she could not do the course as she lacked the necessary skills when she very first started.

Mariam joined a DR group in April 2017, and attended study days every week, completing coursework on a weekly basis. She became level 2 qualified in childcare in April 2018. August 2018, Mariam signed up to her Early Years Educator Level 3 as a loan learner. Mariam faced many issues as she was in Great Ormond Street hospital with her youngest son, despite that she still managed to complete her coursework.

Mariam improved dramatically with her ICT skills and her English written skills from April 2017. She is now able to complete tasks that include PowerPoints, leaflets, newsletters, letters, and booklets. Her spelling, grammar, and punctuation has improved dramatically and has very minimal mistakes. She is now level 2 qualified in childcare and has almost finished her level 3 in childcare, which she is due to end in February 2020. Mariam has been able to get a part-time job as a school assistant in an excellent school in Harrow. She continues to volunteer in the children’s center PESTs for special needs children and their families.
